Thanks for visiting!

Some folks have often asked "What is a Jay Hawker?" Well here is some history.

As a bird, the Jayhawk does not exist; it is as fabulous as the mythological roc. But Jayhawkers were very real, indeed, in the days leading up to the Civil War. A Jayhawker was one of a band of anti-slavery, pro-Union guerrillas.

Adopted by militant bands affiliated with the free-state cause. These bands, known as "Jayhawkers", were guerrillas fighters who often clashed with pro-slavery "Border Ruffians".

Another historian of the territorial period described the jayhawkers as bands of men that were willing to fight, kill, and rob for a variety of motives that included defense against pro-slavery "Border Ruffians", abolition, driving pro-slavery settlers from their claims of land, revenge, and/or plunder and personal profit.

Today as Jay Hawkers, we are here to serve the same purpose. We are here to help end the en slavery of our own communities. We see potential in all of us and we are willing to help our communities become better places to live, work and play. We envision our young people becoming productive citizens and at some point helping in their own communities. We believe in a proper and just education; feeding the homeless; empowering our women, men and children; so that we can continue  our progression that our ancestors have worked so hard for in the past. If we dont break the chains of self bondage; who will.
